Life Guard job description

I. Job Summary
Protect the safety and well being of each camper using the Hopwood School & Camp swimming pools. The lifeguard will work directly with participants providing courteous, friendly and professional assistance. The lifeguard is reponsible for morning swim lesson coordination and afternoon free swim.


II. Job Relationship
A. Reports to: Upper Camp director
B. Supervised by: Upper Camp director
C. In the absence of the Upper Camp director, the lifeguard is under the supervision of the head lifeguard.


III. Responsibilities
A. Insure the safety of campers using the Hopwood School & Camp swimming pools.
B. Apply all rules and regulations consistently.
C. Coordinate emergency procedures or provide first aid in emergency situations.
D. Maintain positive relations and rapport with campers.
E. Perform general maintenance/custodial functions as requested.
F. Attend regularly scheduled staff meetings.
G. Other duties as assigned.


IV. Position Qualifications
A. Must hold current Red Cross or YMCA Lifeguard Training Certification, CPR, and Standard First Aid.
B. Previous lifeguard experience preferred, but not required.
C. Applicants must fill out an application, come to the camp for an in-person interview, and furnish references.
