SUMMER CAMP 2010 REGISTRATION CLOSED
Middle and Upper Camp
Program
The Hopwood Middle Camp (ages 6,7,8) and Upper Camp (ages 9-12)
programs take place on the upper hillside of the 8.5 acre campus.
The center of the camp is the “Barn”, a 250 year
old barn that houses the game room, reading center and camp
co-director’s
office. The campus has wooded and open areas where campers often
enjoy a variety of wildlife and the antics of our resident animals
(Cupcake, the pony and llamas Otis "Spunky" Spunkmeyer, Zack
and X-Y-Z).
Camp Enrollment, Hours
and Extended Care - Middle and Upper Camps at Hopwood
run Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. . The
program is a full day / 5 day only program (2 week minimum
enrollment). Hopwood
provides before and after camp care from 6:30 a.m. to 9:00
a.m. and 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. for an additional charge. 2

and Challenge course.
Creative Activities - Individuals
and small groups explore a variety of media in our Art Barn and

Plaster Casting, Needlework, Macramé, Acrylic and Water
Color Painting. Singing, Dance, Dramas, Creative Writing and
camp

Field Trips - Numerous field trips
are taken throughout the summer. They include local plays, Phillies
baseball games, museums, nature reserves and zoos. Fishing trips
at a nearby pond are also a favorite camp pastime.
Decision Making - Young people need
to practice decision making. Campers will have time every day
to make choices for activities and projects. For instance, they
may choose between a hike, cooking, playing a game or going fishing.
All activities are supervised by a counselor.
Planning and Problem Solving - Campers and staff plan and
implement projects which the campers initiate. Counselors encourage
and assist as the campers tackle a wide range of project related
tasks and obstacles. Past projects include a camp newspaper, carnival
games, structure building and plays.
Special Days -Throughout the summer,
Hopwood invites special guests to the camp to give hands on talks
and demonstrations for campers. Special guests in the past include
representatives from the Pennsylvania Department of Natural Resources,
wild animal rescues, honeybee keepers, bagpipe players and retired
Vaudeville actors to name a few. Wednesdays are “Pizza Wednesday” as
campers enjoy a camp wide pizza lunch. Fridays are always a theme
day or field trip. Upper and Middle campers have enjoyed
such past theme days as Finding Waldo Day, The Olympics, Carnival
Day and Messy Mania.
All Campers will receive a Hopwood Camp t-shirt to be used on
camp trips.
Services are provided and admissions/referrals are made without
regard to race, color, religious creed, ancestry, gender, handicap
